The Barak valley is located in the south of Assam and its main city is Silchar. Silchar is the most commercialized and urban city in the Barak’s valley. The Barak river is located in the Barak valley’s Cachar district.
Due to the incessant rainfall on Sunday the river swelled up and eventually overflowed causing the floods. Over 2.8 lakh people are stuck in the flood and it is getting very hard to reach them as the communication lines are being disrupted by the flood waters. It is getting difficult to provide food due to the depths of flood and hence necessities are being airdropped. Electricity is also not available due to the disruptions of the floods. Many families are still stuck in their waterlogged homes and there is an acute shortage of food and water.
