On July 3,2022 First Hope Foundation held an event at Lakhipur College. Everyone welcomed us with open arms. The presentation began with an introduction from the principal, and then the students spoke about the difficulties they had in college and educated us about various environmental and social issues. Due to a lack of various aspects, numerous difficulties were raised, and solutions were pondered, the students’ amazing ideas, abilities, and skills were never put to use.
Despite having access to top-notch facilities, encouraging professors, and a committed administration that works tirelessly on their behalf, these students still find it difficult to compete with their peers who attend large private universities because they believe they have better access to resources. One of their students, Nur Shahida Parvin, went on to elaborate. We all want to succeed, but these disadvantaged students don’t have the resources to make our ambitions a reality. Students are unaware of their options for careers besides engineering and medical having given us such precise information and data. We consistently gave the students’ recommendations first priority since we appreciated their zeal and hard work. The programme continued with the student, Nur Alom’s discussion on current environmental and social issues. He emphasised how, despite encountering hundreds of disasters and repercussions each year, we seldom pay attention to the environment’s gradual degradation in this period of fast expansion and industrialization. Recently, there was a devastating flood that resulted in several fatalities, wrecked homes, and a lack of food and drinking water. Because of our ignorance and selfishness, all of this transpired. Due to poverty and natural disasters, the disadvantaged segment of society is negatively impacted by these repercussions. Similar to this, there are many societal challenges today that obstruct the way to a society’s expansion and development. Since so many people still lack access to good sanitary facilities, clean water, and a healthy environment, our society needs to raise awareness about various infectious diseases before they become pandemics like the Covid-19. Growing pollution and filthy environments are having a quick negative impact on human health. Immediate corrective action and implementation are required; else, the situation risked getting worse.
In addition, regardless of our ethnicity, religion, caste, or social standing, we are all accountable for our actions. We all have the same ideas about sustainability and pollution management, but we never mobilise ourselves or establish habits. We need to put all the greed aside for a while, do our part to hope for a clean, green future. Our CEO, Mr. Nazibul Omar, finally took to the stage, he enlightened to the gathering about the foundation’s mission, the campus connect programme, and how these initiatives may alter the quality of education in this country, eliminate social problems, and improve environmental circumstances. We delivered our feedback forms and pamphlets after Principal Ma’am gave us a heartfelt round of applause. We made an effort to address all the crucial issues in it, and then we held a Q&A session with the students. Last but not least, Dr. Anupama Rabha received a vote of gratitude as the event gently came to an end.
